Designer To Watch | Roman Jody



 Jody Just is a concept label that meshes the heritage of underground party, art, and skateboard cultures of Sydney and New York. Artist Roman Jody drew from his experiences in both places as inspiration in the the creation of the brand. It consists of a handful of hats, tees, and hoodies in limited quantities that any street wear aficionado can appreciate. Our favorite is the capsule hoodie worm by fashion stylist extraordinaire Kyle 'Dusty' Gayle

Designer to Watch: Aminah Abdul-Jillil

We are constantly obsessed with the influence and aspiration of the luxurious design houses that we have come to know and admire as household names. But, there is something more satisfying about the discovery of the unsung heroes — the designers who believe in their talent, craft and ability to create a brand that commands attention.

Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, shoe designer Aminah Abdul Jillil does exactly that. Offering a collection of booties, ankle-strap flats, and pumps, each pair offers intense detailing in some form. Our greatest obsession: the bow pump and flat.

Designer to Watch: Nicci Hou

She is no newcomer to the industry, but her brand is steadily becoming more of a household name. Known by some of the industry’s best fashion stylists, socialites and celebrities, Hou’s most recent showcase was worn by Destiny Child’s Michelle Williams to the BET Awards and received exception reviews.  Nicci Hou’s signature ruffle is show stopping, distinguishing her blouses, skirts and gowns from other contenders in the game.

Designer to Watch: Zathan Marcs

The first time I met Zathan Marcs, and saw his art flow down a runway, I knew that he had a serious commitment to intertwining couture fashion with unexpected design themes. With a fast-paced beginning in 2012, Marcs was impressively participating in fashion shows as if he's been doing it for years. More recently, he's participated in Midwest Fashion Week in Indianapolis, followed by Sante Fe Fashion Week. "I realized that I wanted to create a line that embraces the dark and vibrant side of fashion," states Marcs, who creates for men and women because he feels both "need to be fashionable and have options."

Designer to Watch: Katungulu Mwendwa



Featured as a designer during GenArt's Fresh Faces in Fashion Show during New York Fashion Week, Katungulu Mwendwa hails from Nairobi, Kenya and is mixing Western influence with an African foundation to create eye-catching garments.

Update! Tonya Gross Millinery for Zappos.com



One of Haute Chicago's previously featured design houses, Tonya Gross Millinery, has been selected by Zappos.com to participate in the 2013 Emerging Designer Program. For an up and coming designer, not only is this a great distinction, but also provides the ability to bring more recognition to Chicago and its designers.
